Take a Friend to View a New Horse

April 16th, 2010Pets AdvicePrior to succumbing towards the immense outlay of shopping for a horse, you’ll want to consider how decent a horse rider you happen to be, and how much do you actually know about horses and caring for them. Realistically, you should really be honest with yourself as this can be a huge commitment. Try to think about what scale and ages of horse would be the most appropriate for you personally as well.
Ok you’ve just fallen in love with a flash looking equine so what now? What do you wish to realize and is THIS the horse for yourself? Do you think you’re going to be barrel racing, hunting, driving, trail riding or jumping? Are you likely to ride at all? You can obtain horses solely to drive.
Do you know this horse’s disposition? Quiet, feisty, pushy, amenable, or jumpy? If you aren’t relaxed with horses, avoid getting a pushy horse, as you will find it ordering around you and never the opposite way about. If you are aiming to just trail ride, don’t buy an eventer horse.
If haven’t got horse experience then do not purchase a young horse and then attempt to train it. 2 newcomers who do not know a lot do not make a good mix. Hold your horses until when have added skill or you could pay for your mistakes – including accidents to both you and your horse as you did not know just what you were taking on.
Bring an experienced friend with you to test horses. It’s recommended that they help you sussing the horse to ensure you don’t end up over-horsed (purchasing a horse that is far too much for you to live with). Your knowledgeable comrade can as well ride the horse for you to examine if it might suffice for you. If the existing holder is using the horse, and they maintain you won’t need to sample the horse – run for it, and do not look round.
