While obedience training goes a good way to giving you a well behaved dog, it does not always solve or prevent all behaviour issues. By working on your dog’s behavior you can modify your pup’s bad behavior habits.

Let me tell you what falls into the dog behavior category. I have covered a number of these behavioral issues already, and others I'll be getting to shortly.

    Inappropriate barking
    Gnawing on non-dog items
    Eating Poop (Coprophagia)
    Digging
    Hyper
    Biting
    Separation anxiety
    Jumping on folks
    Issues with eating
    Mean to other dogs
Peeing places they don't seem to be permitted to
    Hopping over your backyard fence
    Running away from home
    Taking off of counters
I would like to address each one of these individually, so I will not go into them now, but I would like to lay out 1 or 2 thoughts to remember about your dogs behavior. First and foremost, is the significance of consistency. You can resolve many of those issues by utilizing the command words that your dog learns through repitition.

For example, to keep your dog from eating dog poop, use the command “Leave It.”

To stop your dog from jumping on people, use “Sit” or “Down”

To calm your dog from being hyper, you can use “Heel”

As you can see, dog obedience is such a main part to keeping your dog’s behaviour in control. If they have been trying their obedience coaching, and are still having behavior Problems, then the obedience training can be used as a building block or stepping stone.

Many dogs behavior issues come from separation nervousness. If you remember when I talked about separation uneasiness, dogs occasionally act out due to fear or insecurity of being left alone.

Here's a reminder for you on how to help with your dog’s agitation if you feel that their behavior issues are coming from this separation stress.

Start leaving your dog alone for short bursts during the day. This lets your dog know that you will not always be there, but you will always come back.
Ensure that your dog has everything they require while you are way, for example water, food, and toys.
Make certain to walk your dog or let them run around for a bit before you leave for an extended period.
If your dog is housetrained already and they have got a way to eliminate while you are gone, try leaving them their massive meal to eat before you go. This will help waste some time for them.
Consider adding another pet to your folks. Many animals want a companion home with them.
Leave your pup in their crate or another secure area.
Make sure that your dog has had obedience coaching. This helps them find out how to control their feelings.
Pay a neighbour or a chum to stop by and let your puppy out and play with them in the middle of the day.
Leave the TV or radio on so there is noise in the house.
Leave your pup with a unusual treat that they like and only get when you're leaving. Shortly they may wish to push you out that door to get something tantalizing for their belly!
If your dog has behaviour issues while you are around, and you believe that separation tension isn’t the culprit here, then there could be an absence of understanding who is exactly the master in the house; you or your dog.

You need to start making an attempt to obviously define your role as a leader and your dog’s role as a follower. Make sure that they know what is anticipated of them, and reward their good behavior.

When they misbehave, correct their bad behavior instantly and do not let them get away with it. Your puppy will shortly learn that what they are doing isn't O.K with you.

Another helpful tool is identifying what is causing your dog to behave badly. If they are barking at the doorbell, you might need to ring the doorbell more often to have them get use to it.

Neither you or the people around you wish to have a bad dog. Beginning early with behaviour modification will not only help your dog, and your family, but also the other people in your lives.

Your dog can be considered a member of your family. Much in the same way that you would train and correct your children, it is important to do that for your dog as well. How can you expect them to behave if you haven’t taught them what that means? Read on for ways that you can start training your family dog.

Using a crate when you’re not at home can be very effective, especially for a young puppy. The crate keeps your puppy safe and secure, and also protects your home from chewing and bathroom accidents. Your puppy can learn to feel comfortable and protected in his crate home while you are away.

Sometimes it may be necessary to physically establish yourself as the Alpha in the pack. If your animal is being aggressive to another animal or a person, hold them by the scruff of the neck and put them in a prone position on the ground firmly, not violently. This lets your dog know you are in charge and exhibits behavior they would expect from another dog.

It is important to note that telling your dog “no” does not give him any information. For example, if someone comes into your house, and your dog starts to jump, saying “no” is not enough information. Whereas, saying, “sit” is a better alternative, because it gives him something he can actually do. If you tell a dog what you want him to do with a command, this avoids confusion, and he will learn to listen.

The fastest way to train your dog to sit is to utilize positive reinforcement. If you command your dog to sit and he or she sits for a decent amount of time, then you can give the dog a treat. The dog will then recognize that when you say sit, if they succeed they will get a treat so they will eagerly sit longer and longer.

A great dog training tip is to assume the role of the pack leader. All dogs have a pack mentality. There is typically a pack leader that influences the behavior of the rest of the pack. By acting as the pack leader, your dog will become more obedient.

When properly training your dog, you should always make sure that you can get a response from it. If your words or actions do not affect your dog in any kind of way, then you will not be able to train your dog no matter what you try to do.

Make your dog training fun for both you and your animal. If you are not having fun then more than likely, your dog is not either. This can lead to you both having a bad experience. The more fun you can make your dog training the faster it will go for both of you. Try to look at dog training as a game, and not as a chore.

Many people are surprised to discover just how easy it is to significantly lessen canine behavior problems. So try some of the advice we mention and you’ll soon discover, just as many happy pet owners already have, that with just a little bit of work, and a lot of consistency, your dog will be much happier and better behaved.

Training your dog is an integral part of providing a good home for it. It also makes for a happier owner because the dog is happy. This article can help you see the benefits of training your dog.

The key to successful dog training is to start them as soon as possible. No matter how old your dog may be it is never too late to get them started. While it may take a little longer, you can still achieve a great deal of success. You can start training most puppies after they are about 6 weeks old. This is the perfect time to get the ground rules setup for a calmer more obedient dog.

In order to get your dog to obey you, it may be wise to take obedience classes. The instructors in the classes can help you with a wide variety of problems that your dog may have, from not listening to your commands, to stop unneeded barking, to sitting when you tell it to.

For dogs that chew inappropriately, try a training aid like a liquid that has a strong, bitter taste. Many pet stores sell holistic products that taste terrible to most dogs. Some people choose to steep pepper flakes in water in a spray bottle instead. Either way you choose to go, a bitter or spicy deterrent on furniture, shoes, or other items that you don’t want your dog chewing or eating can stop this behavior in its tracks.

Don’t ever ignore good behavior from your dog. If they do something good, even if you didn’t ask them to do it, make sure that you reward them for it in some way. If you start to ignore them when they have done something desirable, then they will see no reason to keep doing it.

Only correct your puppy’s mistakes as you witness them. Dogs don’t understand anything that isn’t in the “here and now.” So trying to correct a puppy’s mistake after the fact will only have a negative effect.

In conclusion, you are looking for new methods to train your dog,, in an effort to break away from the traditional methods that everyone uses. Your dog is unique and so are you. As long as you follow these new methods as suggested, you may find that these ideas will bring you success in a whole new way.

All dogs no matter how big or small have the same kind of mindset to them. If a person understands that mindset one should not have any problem training whatever kind of dog they choose to get. If one does not understand that mindset then they are in luck because they are about to get some insight.

Your dog’s behavior during walks should become habit through consistency. Teach your dog to focus on you and your physical clues about their behavior. Training your dog to walk with you should come naturally to them if you are leading and demanding the attention of your dog. If you are walking with purpose, it will be emulated by your pet.

Consistency is key in effective dog training.  Make sure that all of your family members use the same commands and remain on the same page when it comes to training.  Your dog will better understand then commands, you will avoid confusion, and it will take less time to achieve your training goals.

When you are training your dog, it’s important to realize that learning for dogs needs to be continuous, as it would be with humans. Don’t stop working with your dog once they master the commands you teach them. Make them work towards new skills, and this will in turn perfect the initial skills they learn.

When you are training your dog, never use a command he knows as a punishment. For example, if your dog needs a time out, do not put him in his crate. It may create a negative association for him. Another example is when you call your dog to you to be punished. This hurts his chances of completing successful recalls in the future.

Do not lean over your dog, no matter whether he is big or small. Dogs are intimidated by space-hogging body posture. Even your subtle movements are read by your dog, so a simple lean will suffice if you are attempting to block or redirect his path. Hovering straight over a dog may make them reactive as well.

Never leave a tied dog unattended for long lengths of time.  Even the best trained dog can become excited and active enough that they snarl up their chain or rope around and around itself or another object.  If you don’t catch this in time your dog could actually twist his collar tight enough that he suffocates.

The “watch” command is extremely useful and should be taught to your dog early.  The process is simple: hold a treat between your eyes and use the command.  When the dog gets this idea, start moving your hand parallel to your face.  Naturally, your dogs eyes should follow the treat. The moment he looks back at you, as if to say, “Aren’t you going to give me that?” reward him. Pretty soon, he’ll learn that looking you in the eyes is the best way to get what he wants. This technique is valuable for helping your dog to focus on you during distracting situations.

As noted previously, bonding with your dog is an important part of your relationship. By reading the article and taking note of the information, you can build a better relationship with your dog. It can also be an enjoyable part of your relationship as you both learn from each other and have fun interacting.

Paper train your dog. If your dog is left home for long periods of time, he will need a place to go to the bathroom. With this housebreaking method, accidents do not occur in other areas of the house, and the dog learns the proper place to do his business.

Create a regular schedule for your dog. Make sure his meals are at the same time each day, and walk him morning and night. Try to take him out for toilet breaks using a consistent routine. Dogs tend to thrive when they have a schedule that they can follow.

Dog training should be viewed as a form of self control.  If you’re not able to control yourself, you’ll never control your dog.  Walk away from your dog, rather than letting him see an angry outburst, and remain calm even when his behavior is not stellar.  Your dog will respond in a positive light if he watches you do the same.

Training your dog to stay can be a very useful command to teach. If you need to leave the house or the room and your dog is a pest and gets under your feet. The stay command is also very helpful if your dog is distracted and wants to go running off.
What do you do to train your dog to stay? It is very important to make sure your dog has fully mastered the “sit” command as this type of training requires your dogs full attention and it is a very good idea to do this type of training when the dog is calm. After a walk might be a good time.
Ideally a quiet spot around the yard or the house, a lead and your dogs favourite treat is all that is required for this training. Start by putting the lead on your dog and getting your dogs full attention by looking the dog straight in the eye and commanding the dog to sit. The next thing is put your hand out towards the dogs face, palm facing at the dogs nose and firmly give the command “stay” or a similar word. Don’t ever vary or change the word you use as you will confuse the dog. Then take a step backwards and keep repeating the command “stay” in a firm tone. Then take a step toward your dog and praising the dog if your dog has stayed and is sitting.
It will only be a second or two. When you first do this the dog is likely to get up and want to follow you, even though you took one step back, the dogs instinct will always be to try to follow you. So this first step could take quite a few tries.
Once your dog has mastered the first step backwards you will slowly increase your distance a step at a time in latter lessons. Stick to the same method with your hand out stretched saying “stay” in a firm tone. When you get to the point where you are on the other side of the room or the yard you can turn your back on the dog. You’ll know when your dog has mastered the stay command when the dog will sit and stay for several minutes. It is imperative to always return to your dog and give the dog lots of praise and maybe a treat.
If after a few attemps the dog keeps trying to follow you just put a long lead around a tree and pull back on it each time the dog tries to follow you. Your dog will learn the command just have patients and keep it fun. In an ideal situation you should try to train your dog a few times a day.

Does your dog greet people by sitting politely or jumping up and bowling them over? For a puppy this can be quite cute, if you have an energetic 75lb dog this could equal a disaster. This is where you will learn how to train your dog to be well mannered and polite when greeting people.
Firstly we need to know why dogs jump. Possibly the main reason that dogs jump is to get up to a persons face, this is quite natural for a dog to do. When you watch two dogs greet each other they will lick at each others muzzles. In the dog world this is good manners but when it comes to us humans it is considered to be very rude.
In order to stop these bad manners people do exactly what their dog would consider play initiation in the canine world. The tendancy is to put hands on and push on the shoulders and neck of their dog to get the dog down. Observe what is happening when dogs are playing. They put their front paws on the neck and shoulders of the other dog and hold them there.
When our dog doesn’t understand that we want the dog to stop we keeping pushing the dog down and the dog keeps jumping up. We then have a tendancy to get angry at the dog and punish our dog, the dog then gets very confused. All the dog thought that was that you were playing and then snapped and got aggresive to the dog and the dog gets confused.
So whats the answer to getting your dog to stop jumping up on you and your visitors? At first just ignore this behavior. In canine language igoring this behavior is sending a very clear message to your dog. Just keep walking and no matter what the dog does just toatally ignore your dog like the dog is not even there. An alternative method that is highly effective is to just turn your back to the dog and ignore the dog. When you just totally ignore your dog you send the message that you don’t like this behavior. When the dog is calm again and on all of it’s four paws calmly praise the dog and maybe give the dog a treat. Don’t get all excited and then praise the dog excitedly as this will only excite your dog and start the dog jumping all over again. When you arrive at home don’t excitedly greet the dog. Just be calm and greet your dog in a calm manner.
