One of the biggest marketing slogans behind Apple’s iPhone has been that they have had an ‘app’ for just about everything. The good news for our furry friends is that there are now even applications for pet health care. These apps are perfect for pet owners who prefer mobile phones to computers as a way of finding information quickly.

The aim of the apps is to give pet owners the information they need quickly and in a concise, simple manner. The Pet First Aid app offers very handy snippets of easy to understand information and advice on pet health care. The app also offers advice on how to perform physical checks on your pet to help you figure out what the problem might be. A very useful ‘what’s normal’ section lets owners look up symptoms or behaviour to see whether they should be a cause for concern.

The mobile symptom checker works in a similar way to the first aid app. A little bit like a pet version of the NHS direct website, the app lets users search through symptoms by category.

The Vet Records app helps pet owners to keep themselves updated on their animal’s pet health care records. Medical information is inputted and medical treatment can be tracked.  Whilst this app may sound redundant, it is especially useful if a pet has to receive emergency treatment from a different vet to normal, for example on holiday.

Pet health care fans will really love the Pet Services finder app. From dog walkers, to vets, to catteries, this service which is a cross between a search engine and a phone book can find them.

Other popular pet and pet health care related apps include an Off the Leash app which gives dog owners suggestions of interesting walks which are pet friendly and a Veterinary Dictionary which helps to clear up some of the confusing terms vets use.

In all, it is certainly true that today’s app technology is going a long way to making pet health care information more accessible to everyone.

One of the most important changes we can make to improve our health is to increase or levels of physical activity and to lose weight. Changing our routine can often be a big, scary step at first and can seem like a massive commitment. Experts often recommend having a friend to partner you in your exercise regime, so that you can motivate each other. Unfortunately, friends are only human, and they’re as likely as you to struggle to resist temptation. Their warm cosy bed can easily be too much to resist and your exercise regime may quickly disappear. The solution is to find a partner who always feels like exercise. A dog.

You can easily combine your health with pet health. If you already have a dog, you should be walking him every day already. But there’s always room for improvement. I understand the temptation of the shortest of walks twice a day is hard to resist. We’re lucky in Britain that even in the cities we’re never really that far from a park or some countryside. We have so many great places to walk your dog. You’ll find the countryside much more inspiring than suburbia.

You’ll really feel the benefit of some long country walks, and so will your dog. Exercise lifts the mood, for people and animals. It’ll also help you in your quest to lose those last few pounds. You could also take advantage of the time walking to enjoy your dog’s company, or your fmaily’s if they come with you, or even get some peace. Above all, it won’t cost you a thing.

Your health is greatly important, and so is pet health. So is your bond with your pet. What better way to look after each other than to exercise more together?

For people who have pets, they’re a part of the family. This is why pet health care is as important as human health care. Visiting the vet can be expensive, but knowing the basics to keep your companion healthy may help by reducing the need for medication and surgery in later life.

Larger pets such as cats and dogs must be vaccinated by a vet when they are young. This can be expensive, but shouldn’t be forgotten. In the long run though, vaccination saves money by protecting against life threatening conditions.

Cats and dogs must also be treated for fleas, ticks and worms. Again, this may seem expensive but it’s better to be safe than sorry and it’ll ensure your pet is happy.

Promoting your animal’s happiness and comfort is also a great contributor to pet health care. A suitable place to sleep is vital. Cats may not stick to one single place, instead choosing to curl up on your sofa. Dogs on the other hand should be provided with a warm bed. Even small pets like hamsters and rabbits need a warm, comfortable place to sleep. You can buy hamster bedding at pet shops, but they’re just as happy with shredded paper.

Your pet’s diet is also very important to their health. It sounds like a joke, but pet obesity is on the increase in the UK, so choose their food carefully. Although they love it, cats shouldn’t be given too much fatty milk, so save that for treats. It is very easy to get accustomed to feeding your dog food intended for people at the table. A little human food is ok, but always remember your dog has his own food too, so shouldn’t be eating too much of yours. Rabbits love fresh vegetables and varying their diet is fantastic for them.

To prevent pet obesity, all animals should get enough exercise. Even small hamsters need to be able to run about, so you should give them the biggest cage you can. You should also let your hamster out of its cage to exercise; many pet shops sell small plastic balls for them to run around in. Watch out though, as hamsters are great escape artists. Although cats will get their own exercise, they love to stay active with toys at home. Some more pampered cats might not be keen to go outside, especially in the Winter, but it is for their own good to give them some gentle encouragement to spend time outdoors. Exercising your dog is easy, because most dogs love a good walk. It’s important to give your dog the right amount of exercise as too much can be bad for him. Bigger dogs normally require longer walks.

These are very simple considerations which are very effective in giving your pet a healthy lifestyle. Always make sure your pet is given a vet check up once a year, but remember that a healthy lifestyle is vital to pet health care. Following this advice could save you a lot of money, and more importantly, heartache by saving your animal from becoming unwell in the first place.
