There’s no doubt about it: The economic recession that’s raging across the United States courtesy of an absurd number of layoffs, massive quantities of homeowners defaulting on their mortgages, an inflation rate that far overpowers current adjustments to incomes and the resulting decrease in consumer spending has hit everyone hard. As Americans struggle to pay their bills and put enough away to ensure their retirement, companies from coast to coast are taking a major hit in profits.

Somehow purchasing a new Ferrari just doesn’t look as appealing when you consider the impact that expense is going to have on your retirement account.

But there are certain necessities that are always necessary such as oramd, hydrofloss and Therabreath. Without the basics, what is life anyway?

The bad news is that this trend doesn’t show any immediate signs of coming to an end, particularly as gas prices continue to soar. The good news is that an economic recession is not always a bad thing! In fact, if you are a savvy investor and business owner an economic recession can actually help you. Why? Because there are certain things that happen during a recession that, if used correctly, can help you ensure your security and the security of your family for many years to come.

It seems as though every time you turn on the news there’s another story about a plant that’s closing, another company that’s outsourcing their labor and laying off their employees and a rapidly growing line of people standing in the unemployment office. What they don’t tell you about is the hundreds of people behind the scenes who are benefiting from this economic recession. Why should they? Good news doesn’t make good news!

I firmly believe if we’re going to have our lives and our futures tossed like a boat in a storm courtesy of an economic recession, every man, woman and child has the right to know how to secure that future through the opportunities that are staring them right in the face.

As individuals we can’t change a single thing that’s going on "out there". What we can do is change the way we look at it and learn to seek out the hidden jewels of opportunity that make economic recessions a gold mine for the savvy investor.

You may not be very surprised to learn that times are tough right now for many people throughout the country.  You hear that the official unemployment rate is about 10% but secretly, many people say it is much higher.

However, this article isn’t really about doom and gloom.  In fact, I want to believe that things are going to get better, just like you most likely do.

Health is very important to us. And when times get tough, people get stressed. Sometimes this takes a toll on your health.

It is no secret that many researchers have discovered evidence that suggests the health of our bodies are very connected to the health of our mouths. Yet people have problems with this in many regards!

One is the cost of dental treatment. The other is a lack of understanding, about how to improve dental health at home. These two factors are very related. If you understand good home care, you have a much better chance to keep your teeth and gums healthy AND avoiding expensive dental bills at the same time.

Here are some tools that can help.

    1. The hydrofloss -  Oral irrigation can be very helpful to your dental health – however this particular device is, in my opinion the best. It has been studied and the studies have been published in the Journal of Clinical Periodontology not once, but twice!

    2. Therabreath moutwash – pH balanced, oxygenated mouthwash – very powerful for combatting bad breath and even gum disease.

Taking care of your dental health often needs to extend beyond just regular toothbrushing and flossing. After all, if they were enough to truly maintain your dental health, then why are so many people walking around that need or have had expensive dental treatments?  In time, you will begin to understand that what you do at home can have a major impact on your health, well-being and your wallet – all at the same time!

Get more information on this topic from the book: What You Should Know about Gum Disease – available at Amazon and other online book sellers.

Pet owners are giving up their animals at an alarming rate.

This is just another sign of how our downward spiraling economy is affecting the U.S. household. A family unit is more than just parents and 1.2 children, but also includes the family pet.

Shelters are seeing this on a consistant basis, individuals coming in, making a decision that they feel is no longer in their control. Quite often they feel the burden and anxiety of household debt looming over their heads. This is an ill-fated consequence of our existing times.

Examples of households making the decision of settling their debt, or taking care of a valued member of the household have been showing up all over our cities. From households  turning in their dogs and cats in order to pay for medical bills, to households  euthanizing their pets so they can afford to keep current on credit card bills and keep their head above water. The economic demise is making it increasingly hard for some pet owners  to justify putting down as much as a thousand dollars yearly or more on the care and food for their dogs and cats.

The population escalation at animal shelters around the U.S. shows how the fragile economy is also decreasing the pool of would-be adopters.
The recoil effect has been overpopulation of shelters resulting in a faster rate of euthanization, and quite a few shelters turning away people looking to abandon pets.  Of the estimated 6 million to 8 million dogs and cats sent to animal shelters every year, over half are put down what is left is placed.

Having to leave behind a family pet can inflict deep emotional scars on a household, more so on the children who do not realize the economic pain. We cannot expect them to be conscious of the testing choice their parents have to make, abandoning their dog to make sure after they pay their bills and credit card payments they can be fed and clothed.

The only other option for many people other than abandoning their pet is to dig themselves out of debt. Debt settlement companies can help families lower their monthly house hold expenses eliminating their need to make the grim decision to allow their pet to be put to sleep. The more people understand that there are options; the less stress will be put on the local shelters trying to deal with this issue on a daily basis.

Another option is to find a person or family member willing to temporarily adopt your family pet. This would allow you to relax knowing they are well taken care of and loved. This would allow you to take time and create a debt relief plan putting them in a position to once again make their family pet a part of the household again.
