Looking After Pets
Best Free Advice For Looking After Your Pets-
August 1st, 2010Pets Advicecondominiums Scabies on dogs is caused by a mite which burrows into your dog’s skin. The mite will remain for its lifecycle of 21 days and spread to other areas if left untreated. The mites prefer living on dogs, and those that might jump to a human host will not live long. Humans are what is known as an accidental host.
juegos Although this type of cancer can occur in any dog, it is common in middle aged to elderly dogs, especially large breeds like German Shepherd and Golden Retriever.
Canine spleen cancer symptoms
When the tumor ruptures, the spleen bleeds and internal hemorrhage occurs. Excessive blood loss may result in death. Symptoms of spleen cancer in dogs are:
- shock
- pale gums
- cold body
- weakness
- abdominal distention
- anemia
FSBO Why do Diabetic Dogs get Cataracts?
All cataracts develop in the same way, whether the pet has diabetes or not. The lens in your pet’s eye is normally in a dehydrated state, compared to the rest of the body. There is a delicate balance between water and protein, which ensures that the lens remains clear.
If this balance is upset, more water is absorbed into the lens, which causes it to become cloudy and opaque. When diabetes strikes, the blood sugar levels rise all over the body. Glucose in the eyeball is absorbed into the lens. In turn, this causes the lens to absorb more water, which causes the cloudiness and vision loss in cataracts.
This can happen very quickly, even in as short a time as a few weeks. Sometimes this is the first symptom of canine diabetes that a pet owner will notice.
It may not be obvious before surgery whether the tumor is benign or malignant. If radiographs and ultrasound show spread of tumor to other organs, the tumor is malignant.
If no tumor spread is visible, the mass may or may not be benign. Where the tumor spread is too small to be seen, it may not be obvious if it is benign or malignant until the abdomen is opened.
Treatment for dog spleen tumor
For both benign and malignant tumors, the recommended treatment is splenectomy. If the cancer spread is minimal, chemotherapy following surgery may prolong the dog’s life span.
If the tumor is benign and the splenectomy is not carried out, there will be repeated hemorrhages that is potentially life threatening to the dog. Splenectomy gets rid of the associated problems and symptoms caused by benign tumor You can be published without charge. You can to republish this article in your website or blog. July 30th, 2010Pets Advicecondominiums Corn snakes, like all other snakes, are carnivorous. Meaning they feed only on the flesh of other animals. Corn snakes feed small rodents and sometimes lizards, although they have been known to take small birds from time to time. A pet corn snake owner, obviously, will have an easier time supplying his or her exotic pets with mice than anything else.
An active corn snake will eat every 10 days or so. It is recommended to feed your corn snake pre killed prey, especially if the snake has not been raised on live prey. A live prey may also turn on and attack a lazy snake that isn’t feeling too hungry and possibly causing severe harm to your pet corn snake.
juegos Corn snakes are good at climbing, squeezing out very small holes, and can also use their bodies to push the screen top of a poorly fitted cage. Corn snakes are excellent escape artist, so picking a solid cage with a secure top is very important. Some snakes will constantly rub their nose against screened top of the cage to find a way out. The resulting scratch should be treated with an antiseptic and antibiotic ointment. Always evaluate the furnishings in the enclosure to provide a more natural environment. It is a good idea to use plants and many hiding spots in a large cage to make the corn snake feel secure.
Hiding Place
Hiding spots and plants for climbing and resting should be provided. A hide box, upturned cardboard box or plastic tube will do, should be provided that is just large enough for the corn snake to hide away and curl up in. Hollow bark “logs” (obtainable from most reptile pet stores) make a good choice to get “natural” look. Ideally, a hiding spot should be available in both the cooler and warmer ends of the enclosure.FSBO Generally speaking, the more exotic the pet the more education you will need and it will probably require more expensive housing and food. When you are looking for exotic pets do your research before you shop, you may find you purchase an animal on impulse that you know little about and does not fit your family surroundings.
Water
A bowl of fresh water for drinking must be available to the snake at all times. If the snake defecated in it, the bowl must be cleaned immediately. The bowl should be placed at the cool end of the cage, away from the heat pad.Substrate
A variety of materials can be used for substrate. Newspaper is the effective choice – it is very easy to clean up, but the look in the cage leaves a little to be desired. Indoor/outdoor carpeting and “Astroturf” (plastic lawn) can be used, and if you cut two pieces you can rotate them by swapping the clean one for the dirty one at cleaning time, and thoroughly washing and drying the soiled one. Pine bark chips are another good choice – the chips soiled with feces can simple be scooped out, and a thorough cleaning done as needed. Aspen shaving can be used in a similar manner, although it is probably a good idea to move the corn snake to a separate container for feeding so that the shavings are not inadvertently ingested. The pets are depending on their owners. Always keep in mind that the cage for pet corn snake should provide the same environmental conditions that the corn snake needs in order to survive. July 12th, 2010Pets Advicecondominiums You will have lots of options when looking for a puppy. You may be looking to buy a puppy or just adopt one for free. Although there are usually lots of puppies available, the real question is how to choose the right puppy. Here are a few things to be aware of, to ensure that you are happy with your choice.
juegos sonic Some dogs are more prone to the digging trait than others but basically it comes down to the individual animals and their preferences. Although if you are choosing a dog and are concerned about damage from digging you should stay away from certain breeds due to their extreme tendency towards the digging trait. Terriers in general are diggers and Huskies and Malamutes are also known for the habit.
FSBO A Change of Name
The breed was first exported to Britain in 1908. Oddly, the popularity of the breed increased after soldiers returning from World War I spoke enthusiastically about it. I say ‘oddly’, because, after the war, anti-German sentiment led the UK Kennel Club to change the breed’s name to Alsatian Wolf Hound. Eventually, the ‘Wolf Hound’ was lost and the breed became known simply as the Alsatian. It was not until 1977, that UK Kennel Clubs reverted to the name German Shepherd Dog.
Many of the above problems are self explanatory to resolve. Provide a bored dog with more toys and other things to keep him busy. Exercise your dog more if he is lacking in that respect. Escape artists might need to be confined to a crate if no one is home, or possibly a run could be designed for him.
For the remaining dogs that dig simply because they like it, the above solutions will not have much impact on their habit. For these dogs we need to look at other solutions.
The simplest option is to restrict the dog’s access to areas that he is prone to dig in, such as your garden or perennial bed. Whether by fencing the areas or other means this is the easier way to prevent digging.
The best way to stop the digging habit and protect your yard is to not allow the dog any unsupervised time outside. As long as he is actively supervised he will not have the opportunity to dig.
Another way to protect your plants and grass is to give him a designated area to dig. This could be required if you have a true blue digger, by redirecting his habit to a place that you deal with having dug up you can both win. If you do not have the space to provide a digging spot build a sandbox and fill it with sand and soil mixed together. Correct him if he tries to dig outside of his ‘zone’ and then let him have his fun in his space.
With some patience and a bit of trial and error your dog and your garden can live together in peace. You can be published without charge. You can to republish this article in your website or blog. Please provide links Active.

June 23rd, 2010Pets Advicecondominiums Wild Ferrets
Figuring out where ferrets actually like to live is all about whether they are wild or domesticated. However, knowing a bit about what almost all ferrets like in the way of a home will help owners make an informed decision about the type of ferret cage they should get.
You can be absolutely certain about one thing, though – ferrets don’t like to be cooped up in the same place all the time. So, considering what a wild ferret might like may help in raising your domesticated one. Following are a few suggestions of places to visit to give your pet a bit of variety:
juegos sonic There are numerous things you can look for when ascertaining the baby ferret’s health. For starters, its eyes must be bright and equal in size, and not be running in any manner. Meanwhile, the ears must be clean with no signs of wax, ear mites, or any odor. Similarly, the teeth must also be clean such that there is no evidence of tartar, inflammation of gums and/or bad breath. As regards to the kit’s whiskers, they must not be broken or brittle, and instead they should be long and shiny.
Also make it a point to take a close look at the baby ferret’s nose. Do not be alarmed if the nose is wet or cold as these are not an indictor of health. What you should look out for though is whether the nose is running or not. If you notice that the nose is running, you should make further inquiries.
FSBO A responsible owner must be familiar with the provisions within their area when having a pet. Because you are adding a new member into the family, you must ensure that you can do the task of cleaning up the mess when needed. Ensure that the cage is sturdy enough and it should be clean all the time. Your main concern is to put a halt to the spread of unwanted germs.
If after all these measures you find a kit in healthy physical condition, you then need to analyze the environment it is currently living in since the environment greatly influences the personality the kit develops. Therefore, try and play with the young one and observe its reactions. If the kit seems interested when you try a squeaking toy, chances are that the baby ferret will make for a good pet and has not been stressed during its first few weeks of life, unfortunately there are a number of unscrupulous sellers/breeders that only care for the money earned and not necessarily the animal.
Additionally, make it a point to get a sense of how quickly the kit reacts to various changes in its surroundings. The more alert it appears to be, the better it is. Remember though that generally speaking males are likely to be more active and more alert than their female counterparts. Moreover, male baby ferrets usually weigh more and have a tendency to eat more compared to female kits.
While it is not recommended that you pay great attention to the baby ferret’s color – since the color will usually change as the kit matures – you should try and stick to the browns or the sables since history shows that these colors bring about the most healthy ferrets. Though it is okay to opt for a rare color baby ferret, note that certain rare colors are susceptible to breeding/health problems. For instance, the panda ferret – with white strips covering its head – is infamous for its hearing problems. Therefore, if you decide to go to the rare route, make sure you know what you’re exactly taking on.
That said it is no different that the cat and dog world of today where selective breeding has led to problems and some of which have become so severe in some breeds of dogs that their medium term existence as a breed could be in jeopardy.
