If your bird is a singer like most do, it is quite easy to tell if a bird is ill by listening to it. Singing is the way that birds communicate with the outside world. Depending on the time of the day and how the bird is feeling it will make diverse sounds accordingly as you’ll see by paying attention to it. It will probably have one song that it has in the morning, and one in the evening. Also, your bird might make noises when it sees you, or sees other members of the family.
There will be different sounds for all of their activities in the cage as well like changing the food and water. You need to make yourself become aware of these differences in your pet as it is your responsibility as their caregiver. By becoming aware of these sounds, you’ll know if the bird is feeling diverse by it’s separate reactions. If your pet bird starts making sounds that it has never made, or if it is reacting differently than it normally does, it could be a sign that it is getting sick.
Another thing that you should be able to begin recognizing is the movements of your bird. The bird will develop patterns of the places in the cage that it likes to perch the greatest and the types of activities that it enjoys doing.
If you see that your bird isn’t moving as much as it usually does, or is sitting on the floor of the cage instead of on its perch, it might be sick, and you should pay some attention to it. In the same way if your bird starts acting erratically and flying around the cage in an unusual way or is trying to frantically get out of the cage, it could also be sick. Don’t hesitate to take your bird to the vet if you are in doubt.
It appears that it is about getting to know your bird, and the most effective means that one could actually do this would be to invest a little bit of time in paying attention to it.
