It is obvious that the first command you want to teach is the dog’s name. With a lot of practice and consistency, this will come easily. Make sure you use eye contact and say his name clearly. This tells the dog that you are speaking to them. Stay consistent and the dog will begin to respond after a short while.

“Sit. The rest of your training stems from this. A lot of people think they can get the dog to sit by using the command over and over. This is really not a good approach. The next command you want to teach is “come”.This is important because you always want to be able to control your dog because there will be times that he is off the leash. Starting with your dog on a leash is an easy way to do that. Tell your dog “sit”, then walk as far away as the leash will let you. Once away, use the command ‘come’ and pull the dog toward you with the leash. After doing this several times, you should be able to walk away from the dog, use the command, and they will come.
