The cute new addition to your family home could very well have fleas, though this may be hard to believe. It is typical for young kittens to have fleas prior to living with you as they can aquire them from the environment they inhabited prior to living with you. For instance there’s a large probability that the kittens will have fleas if the mother had them. If there was another pet in the home such as another cat, or dog, then again, there’s a possibility that even though the mother cat wasn’t allowed out while she was nursing her kittens, fleas were brought in by the other pets. It’s more than possible for each of us to bring in fleas on clothing or shoes.

One of the most important tools to own is a flea comb. The second the kitten arrives at your home, take it to the bathroom and comfort it as you run a flea comb over it. Look carefully behing the ears and at the base of the tail as these are particular haunts for fleas. Discovering one is enough to know that this is an problem that requires your attention.

In your kitty grooming box, you should have picked up something that will both kill off the fleas, and be safe for a newborn kitten.Familiarise yourself with the product and have it ready for when you introduce your kitten, incase you spot a flea. Your kitten will aready feel nervous and insecure at this moment, so try not to startle it as much as possible. It is helpful if you could remove all other pets and family members from the environment as this helps to calm and reassure the cat. Once clean, your kitten can meet the family though you shouldn’t let it back into the cat carrier or onto any bedding it’s had previous contact with. Make sure that you wash these all out thoroughly before he’s allowed to have them back.

It’s more than likely that your kitten will not have fleas, but you can be prepared just in case, and avoid a lot of hassle for the both of you.
