Advice About Beagle Training
0
October 1st, 2010Pets AdviceBecause of the fact that beagles are one of the more intelligent dog breeds, getting them trained can be a bit harder than some new owners and trainers first think. They can often be a bit of a handful, especially during the early days of training. This is due to the fact that they like to explore and push their boundaries whenever they get a chance.
Keeping a beagle engaged during training is very important. These dogs never want to be bored and will quickly lose interest if your training is repetitive. A good way to mix things up is by adding games into the training, this should keep both you and your dog entertained. Also make sure you are not always using the same training exercises each time your train. Head over to beagle training to see what we mean.
It is important that you don’t let yourself become frustrated during training, even if it seems like your beagle is making no effort and is not interested in listening to you. You must remain consistent and keep sending the same message to your dog. Never let your beagle feel like you have given up on him during training.
If you do start to notice yourself becoming agitated when the dog training doesn’t seem to be going to plan, make sure you take a break from it. You never want to direct your anger or frustration towards your beagle. Any shouting or physical violence should be avoided at all costs.
The last thing you want to do is build a relationship between you and your dog that is based around fear. If you do then there will most certainly be problems for you and your dog to overcome in the future. A beagle will not listen to your or follow your instructions just because you scare him, often he will just become defensive, which is a poor outcome.
Beagle training should begin as soon as you get your new puppy home. You don’t want to let him do what he wants for the first few weeks without imposing any kind of discipline. If he is allowed to do this then he will think that certain types of wrong behaviour are acceptable and become confused when you try to correct him.
The first things you will want to teach your new beagle are commands like stay, heel and sit which are some of the most basic. It is vital for your dog to master these before trying anything else as they will form the foundations of other more complex commands. For fun you can also teach him to shake your hand with his paw and other similar ‘tricks’ as well.
